Review: BodyWand Massagers

I know the gold standard in vibrators is the Hitachi Magic Wand.  Most of you know I’m rather sensitive and am not fond of super strong wand style massagers, but I was very interested when I got an email asking for review to review Xgen Products new BodyWand line.  I was expecting to receive just one to review, but I actually got all three:  the Original, Rechargeable, and Mini.

The Run Down:

  • Toy Type: Out-ie
  • Manufacturer: Xgen Products
  • Materials: ABS Plastic and Elastomer

all three body wands

The packages

The packaging for each massager is pretty much the same.  They come in a cardboard box that fits the size of the product and there is a slightly scaled down picture of each one on the front.  The color of lettering and all on the box correlates to the color of the product itself, which is nice.  The back of the boxes show the features of each wand.  There is nothing sexual on the products at all.  They are even called a “BodyWand”.  The back does list it as a personal massager, but for the most part I don’t think anyone would think it would be a sexual product without deeper knowledge of it.

All of the massagers are made out of the same materials.  The handle is a hard ABS plastic which can get slick with lubed up hands, but there is a bit of texture on the Original and Rechargeable to aid in your grip.  The head is made out of what they call “Soft-Touch” which I’ve read is an elastomer but the Original and Rechargeable it’s a much firmer, plastic like material.  The Mini has a very soft stretchy material over the head.  Either way, I don’t think it is a fully sterilize-able material so if you are going to use these sexually and share them with multiple partners I’d suggest tossing a condom on them.  The rounded head is very smooth though and I think it should be safe to use these with water and silicone based products and I would feel comfortable using the Original and Rechargeable with oil-based products.  They also all have flexible necks though the Mini has the most flexible neck.

The Original:

  • Size: 12.5″ long; head – 2.5″ in diameter; handle – 2″ in diameter
  • Price: $69.99
  • Pros: Very powerful and deep-ish vibrations; Wider range of speeds than the Hitachi (not just high low); Easy to use dial; Cord is fairly long; Quiet for the power/size
  • Cons: Huge and hard to hold; Has to plug in; Can’t be used under covers or with the vents blocked
  • Intensity: 5/5
  • Volume: 1.5-4/5
  • Overall Rating: 3.5/5
  • Recommended: Yes, if you like really powerful wands and don’t mind the cord
all three body wands

The wands side by side

The BodyWand Original is the largest of the three and it is by far the most powerful.  It’s 12.5″ in total length (excluding the cord) and the head is nearly 2″ in diameter.  For it’s size though it’s not that heavy.  The handle is also huge.  I have big hands for a girl and my hand does not wrap all the way around it.  It plugs in to the wall just like the Hitachi and the cord is a little over 6 feet long.  This length should give you enough room to work with, but it’s still a constraint in where you can use it.  It does have two vents on the back to help cool it so I would be sure to not use it under covers and try not to block the vents to prevent it from over heating.  You also need to be careful with lube to prevent it from getting inside the toy.  The head seems sealed though, so as long as you don’t get it on your hands you can easily avoid it.

Since I do not have the Hitachi I cannot compare power, but I do feel like it is probably just as strong if not stronger.  I also found it to be a rather deep vibration.  I have felt a Fairy Mini and it is definitely much deeper feeling that that.  Unlike the Hitachi, it has a dial control and a wide range of speeds.  The low is actually something I could see myself using sexually, but because of the constraint of the cord and the size of the head I find it unappealing.  The high is very intense and is too much for me to even hold on my muscles. For most of the speeds in between though I do find they feel nice on muscles and can work out kinks.  Even the high is a very deep feeling.  The volume of the toy is also not too bad.  On low, I can barely hear it over music playing through my headphones so I’m sure it could not be heard through a wall.  It is a bit loud on high, but it is not nearly as loud as you would expect it to be.

The Rechargeable:

  • Size: 8″ long; head – 1.75″ in diameter; handle – 1.5″ in diameter
  • Includes: Massager;  Storage bag; Charger
  • Price: $99.99
  • Pros: Rechargeable; Nice size and fits well in my hand; Powerful; Charge indicator light
  • Cons: Plug cover could easily be lost; Not as deep as the Original; Revs up a bit and a bit louder than I’d like
  • Intensity: 4.75/5
  • Volume: 2-4/5
  • Overall Rating: 4/5
  • Recommended: Yes
body wand rechargeable

The Rechargeable with storage bag and charger

The BodyWand Rechargeable is my favorite of the three.  It’s rechargeable (duh?), which is pretty awesome, and it’s a nice size.  The handle is small and curved and it fits nicely in my hand and is very easy to hold.  The head is also much smaller than that on the original.  The charger cord is about 5 feet long so you have plenty of room to plug it in some where convenient.  The plug plugs into a slot on the back of the handle.  It comes with a small rubber plug that fits into the slot during use to help prevent it from getting wet.  The only issue I had with this is that it is not attached at all to the handle so it could be an easy little thing to lose. There is also a small LED on the handle that lights up when charging and turns off when it’s complete.  The box says that 30 minutes of charge gives you an hour of power.

As far as the strength, it is not as powerful as the Original and is a bit buzzier.  The lowest setting is higher than the lowest on the Original but the high is not quite as powerful.  It is still very powerful though.  I also found it to be a bit louder than the Original on the low settings but about on par on the high.  I’m not sure if it is a flaw in my particular one, but when I turn it on it’s not so loud but if I wiggle it around it will rev up and be much louder and makes the vibration more buzzy.  Perhaps it is just a very sensitive dial.  Again, I do not have any intentions of using this as a sexual product, but I love the feel of it in my hand and it’s nice for working out sore muscles without the constraint of a cord.

bodywands mini

The Mini in my hand

The Mini:

  • Size: 8″ long; head – 1.75″ in diameter; handle – 1.5″ in diameter
  • Price: $19.99
  • Pros: Portal; Cute; Girly; Splashproof
  • Cons: Not very powerful;  Very buzzy
  • Intensity: 3/5
  • Volume: 1/5
  • Overall Rating: 2.5/5
  • Recommended: Yes, if you want a cute portable wand

The BodyWand Mini seems almost like a fun toy only to me.  It’s very tiny at only 4″ long and under 1″ in diameter.  However, it is rather cute.  It’s a baby pink with pink and silver rhinestones ebeded in the handle.  They are actually set into the plastic, not just glued on.  It runs on 6 (included) button batteries, which I’ve never seen something run on so many.  It turns on using the dial on the bottom of the handle.  It’s very buzzy and the vibrations are on level with most battery operated bullets.  It’s nothing really special or mind blowing, but it is a cute little product.  It’s also the only one that is listed as splasproof.

Overall, I feel that all the BodyWands are good products but my favorite is by far the Rechargeable version.  I do like that the Original has a much deeper level of vibration than other wands.  I think everyone will be able to pick one of these three wands that they will really like and each wand meets different needs.  The Mini is cute, girly, spashproof and very portrable.  The Original packs all the power you could want and the Rechargeable gives you power with no cord.
