The cover of the book

The cover of the book is very tasteful.  While this is not something I keep displayed on my bookshelf, it could be tucked away and no one would notice it without looking carefully.  It’s also a pretty standard sized book.  What surprised me was how thick it was.  It’s a whopping 253 pages!  I didn’t think it would be that long and because of that, it can take quite a while to read through it completely.
Overall the book is broken up into fourteen chapters.  Here is a list:
  • More Than a Mouthful
  • The Anatomy of a Man’s Pleasure
  • For Him
  • Know the Hard Facts:  Health Considerations
  • Hair and Hygiene
  • Before You Go Down
  • Giving Head
  • Any Way You Want It
  • Deep Throat
  • More Techniques
  • To the Limit
  • Independent Study:  Erotic Books and Videos

The last two chapters are resources and references.  The resources include retailers such as Babeland and the references include other books and DVDs.  I think that this is great since if you purchased the book somewhere, it gives you trusted online resources.  I did really like the progression of the chapters.  It starts off with more basic and emotional issues and progresses through anatomy, health and hygiene, and then techniques.  Through out the chapters there are many cartoon illustrations and diagrams and there are also short erotica pieces.

Probably the most interesting chapter for me was the Know the Hard Facts: Health Considerations.  I liked it a lot because it has tables that lay out the STD risks associated with different sexual activities.  I had never thought about being able to contract STDs from anything other than sex.  It also goes over the types of products you can use to prevent STD transmission for all the activities listed.

Few pages from the Guide

I find the style of writing in the guide to be very easy to read and follow along with.  The only thing I didn’t like it is gets a little repetitive. For example, in several chapters it mentions how if you’re worried about your partner’s smell or taste, to take a shower together, and it does this with several other ideas.  It just annoys me a bit that it’s repeated so often.  I also don’t like when a book says “Oh and then there’s THIS, but I’ll talk about that in Chapter X”.  Then just wait and talk about it then!  It’s just a pet peeve of mine.  Other than that it is a great book with lots of great ideas.  It’s also great because it doesn’t talk about just heterosexual couples and even talks about going down on a strap-on.
Overall, The Ultimate Guide to Fellatio is a really great and informative book.  There are a few things in the writing that bother me, but I just really hate repetition as a writer.  I think everyone, from beginners to advanced players can find something in this book that will appeal to them.   Babeland also sells The Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus and many other guide books by Violet Blue.
