Review: SpareParts Joque Harness

I’ve been eyeing the SpareParts harnesses for quite a while.  They seemed to me to be top standard for non-leather strap-harnesses.  Recently, FunWares added all of the SpareParts harnesses to their store and were kind enough to send me the Joque Harness to review.

The box

The package for the Joque Harness is fairly simple.  It comes in a large plain black box with a small sleeve around it.  The sleeve has an image on the front of a woman wearing the harness and a Spareparts tank top.  It says “Don’t be caught without a spare” and lists the toy name and such.  One side lists the materials, what’s included, and care instructions, while the other shows the color, size, and a size chart.  The back also has an image and lists some of the features of the product.  If you remove the sleeve though, you’re left with the plain black box, which is pretty sturdy.  There is nothing written on it, so it’s perfectly discreet.  The harness itself is wrapped in silver tissue paper inside the box.  You also get a storage bag to keep in harness in.  I do like the box, especially since it can be discreet.  You could easily store the harness, a dildo, and a small bottle of lube in the box.

The harness and storage bag

I received the Size B Joque Harness which has a belt that can be adjusted from 30″ to 65″ and leg straps from 14-24″.  The O-ring size on both Size A and B is the same (1.25-2″).  The straps and majority of the belt is elastic so they still stretch a bit in addition to their length.  The belt is 2″ wide and the leg straps 0.75″.  The inside of the belt and leg straps have a soft cottony feel, so it is not rough against your skin.  The pouch that the dildo is inserted into is more of a stretchy nylon feeling material.  Inside the pouch, it lists the materials as well as how to care for the harness.  If you loose the sleeve that was on the box, you will always have the care instructions.  It list the materials at 77% nylon and 33% spandex and to hand or machine wash warm, gentle, separately, with mild soap.  It also says to not bleach or use fabric softer and to tumble dry on low heat and only use water and silicone-based lubes.  I’m sure tossing it in a lingerie bag with the rest of your wash will be sufficient.  I would suggest washing it before using it though.  Upon putting an orange dildo in, it came out covered in black fuzz.  A good wash should help cut down on any fuzz, but you may want to wipe off the dildo after you insert it into the harness.

As far as putting the harness on, I found it a little difficult to do by myself.  The back of the belt is velcro that allows you to fold the strap over and attach it with the velcro.  It’s difficult to get the sides even with the velcro because I can only do one side at a time. The is also a strap on the belt that allows you to adjust it further.  The issue I have with these methods, is that it requires you fold the belt over on itself, making it thicker.  The leg straps are easier to adjust and are more like backpack straps.  As far as inserting a dildo, it’s probably easiest to before you put the harness on, but it is possible otherwise.  The part that contains the o-ring, acts like a pouch.  The o-ring itself is enclosed in the cloth and it is stretchy.  It says it will stretch up to 2″, but it may be a tight squeeze.  To insert the dildo, you open up the flap at the back of the pouch, and just push it through the o-ring.

The fit of the Joque Harness is much nicer than I expected when I was just inspecting it straight out of the box.  I thought that the wide belt band would be uncomfortable, but it actually fits well.  I do keep the belt straps up over my hips to hold it up, so it doesn’t look as nice and smooth as on the model.  The O-ring also hangs much lower on me, but that doesn’t bother me.  Since it is lower on me, I could easily put a vibrator in the pouch to stimulate myself while using it.  I also found that the elastic straps help keep everything in place.  You can tighten it till it’s tight, but not uncomfortable and it stays right where you want it.

Overall, I do like the SpareParts Joque Harness.  While leather ones are nice, this one is much easier to clean and take care of.  I also feel that since it’s elastic, it makes it a bit easier to keep up.  The only issues I had is it is a little difficult to get on without help and it can leave fuzz on your dildos.  It also comes in a few different colors and is highly adjustable(Black Size A, Black Size B, Pink Size A, Pink Size B, Purple Size A, Purple Size B, White Size A, White Size B).  While it is a bit expensive, I expect it to last for a very long time.  FunWares also carries a wide selection of harness compatible dildos.
