Review: Midnight Desire Pleasure Wand

I haven’t been a fan of wand style vibrators because they tend to be much too strong for me.  However, I couldn’t resist the cuteness of the mini wand sold by Good Vibrations, the Midnight Desire Pleasure Wand (also known as the Mini Magic Wand I believe).

The package

The Midnight Desire Pleasure Wand comes in a small triangular shaped plastic box.  It really isn’t much bigger than the item itself.  I like when packaging doesn’t take up a lot of extra space.  There is nothing written on the box itself, but there is a small paper insert in the back.  It says Mini Magic massager and “battery operated”.  The back lists some of the features of the toy and instructions.  There’s also a small slip inside the package that details how to insert the batteries  You can use the  package for storage or use the small bag that it comes with.  However, this is an awful little bag.  It’s a white fuzzy velor and, while the inside is silky, the fuzzy part is folded over the drawstring and it sheds.  You can’t really tell until you slide the toy in and pull it out.  Since it’s dark blue, the toy comes out covered in white fuzz.  I thought maybe it would die down, but it doesn’t seem to have.  I’m sure it will shed on other things too.  Also I noticed when I picked it up again that part of the side seam has burst and any small pressure on it makes it pull open farther.  It’s a small toy though, so you can easily tuck it away in a drawer or even keep it in your purse.

The wand

The wand itself is very small and compact.  It’s only 6″ in total length and the head is about 1.5″ long and 1.125″ in diameter.  The handle is made from a smooth ABS plastic and the head of the toy is coated in silicone.  The neck also seems to be silicone as well as the button panel.  The head does have a few ridges to it, which can be felt, but are also a pain to clean.  The neck also isn’t as flexible as some other wands I’ve seen, but it flex a bit, I haven’t had a problem with it.  Aside from that it’s fairly easy to clean.  Generally I only need to clean the head, so you can run it under water and use soap.  It does have an o-ring in the battery compartment though so you can probably safely submerge the entire thing.  As far as lube goes though, I would stick to water based, but the silicone is soft and doesn’t add a lot of drag.

Since this wand is small, it runs on two AAA batteries.  The end of the wand twists off and the batteries slide right in.  There are little + and – pictures to show how the batteries should be inserted.  The controls are also very simple.  It appears that there are two buttons, but really there is only one, the smaller bump is where an LED lights up.  It doesn’t flash or change intensity, it’s just on if the toy is on.  The button turns on the two and cycles through the pattern.  You can turn it off by cycling through all of the patterns, or pushing and holding it for a few seconds.  There are a total of six patterns; three solid and three pulsing and escalating.  The vibrations are not quite rumbly, but not really buzzy either except on high and decently strong for something battery operated.  The low is higher than something I would typically start with and I usually don’t go much higher than low unless I use a pattern.  It’s also decently quiet, at least not enough to hear through a closed door.

Overall, I think the Midnight Desire Pleasure Wand is cute and a good addition to your collection.  It’s not the strongest thing out there, but it’s small and fairly powerful for its size.  I also love the dark blue color.  It’s a tad pricey, to be so small, but if regular wands are just too big or powerful for you, this may be something to try.  If you want something a little bigger, they also carry the full size Mystic Wand.
