Review: Muse Massager

Sometimes I like to try a toy just based on how it looks and the Muse Massager is definitely one of them. It has two little ears and little glowing eyes and eyebrows, how can I pass that up?  TabuToys was kind enough to send me one to review.

muse massager packaging

The packaging

The package for the Muse Massager is good and bad.  I have not reviewed anything from NS Novelties before and their packaging is solid, but not the most discreet.  On the front of the box, it has an image of the toy that is the actual size and it says “muse massager” and “silicone” at the very bottom.  I do find the image they use funny, because with the eyebrows lit up, it looks like an angry little bunny.  I would think a happy bunny would market better.  One side has the legal talk on it and the other side lists the features in a few languages and also has a short list of care instructions.  The back has another image of the toy with the features listed in English.  However, you always one more box, and an inner box slides out from the first.  This one has a small window that you can see the toy resting in foam, but looks the same as the outer package with the same information on the sides, but nothing on the back.  Inside you will open it up to find the Muse resting in it’s bed of foam along with the charger.

The Muse is a fairly small toy, not to mention adorable.  The toy is about 3.5″ in total height and has two main parts, the body and the ears.  The body is made from ABS plastic and has a small lighted ring around it.  The body is just under 2″ in diameter and has a rounded body.  However, the toy is balanced and it will actually sit up on any level surface (though it may lean a bit).  It’s kind of like one of those punching bags you had when you were little.  I did find that the base is a little odd to hold, but if you have small hands, it will probably fit well in the center of your palm.  The ears and top part of the body are made from a very smooth silicone that really doesn’t attract a ton of lint.  The ears are about 1.25″ in length and slightly over 0.5″ in diameter and are decently flexible in all directions, though I wouldn’t suggest trying to push them too far.  There is a slight seam where the silicone connects to the plastic, but I have not had any trouble keeping it clean and the eyes are raised slightly.  You may want to be sure to run your fingers or a cloth between the ears.  Since it is silicone, I would suggest using only a water-based lube, though you will probably need very little for it.

The Muse is fully rechargeable and it charges like some of the new Lelo and other toys where you just push the plug in through a small dent in the silicone which means that it is waterproof   There are two motors, one in each ear and the two little “eyes” are the buttons.  The eyes are raised slightly, but they can be a little difficult to feel when in use. Either button will turn the toy on and continuing to press either of them will eventually cycle the toy back off.  The “proper” way to cycle through would be to use the left button.  This starts off at the lowest speed.  There are three speeds of steady vibration and seven speeds of pulsing and escalating patterns.  When the toy is on, there are a lot of lights.  The eyes light up and stay lit up.  There is also a ring around the middle of the toy that lights up and will light to the pattern.  If it is steady vibration, it is solid, but it will pulse to the speed of the pattern it’s on.  There are also four little lights in the eyebrows.  I am not sure why they are there, other than appearance   They do not seem to be connected to any pattern and just do their own thing.  One set turns on, then another, and then they both turn on and it just repeats through that cycle.  Not sure why, but it is kinda cute.  The vibrations themselves are a medium strong buzzy vibration.  The motors are both fairly small, which usually leads to buzzier vibrations.  The vibrations are the strongest in the tips of either ear, but they can easily be felt through the rest of the ears, though the vibrations are not strong in the base.  The ears are flexible, but they do not move from the vibration.  However, I did discover a neat trick.  I don’t know if it is useful for masturbating with, but if you pinch the ears together at just the right distance and put it on a pattern, you can get the ears to jump around.  I’m sure you can find other things to do with the ears.

Overall, I think that the Muse Massager is a cute and odd little toy.  I mean how many angry bunnies with eyebrows do you masturbate with?  The vibrations are a little low and slightly buzzy, so they are not much of my speed, but if you are looking for a decent, dual motor vibration with soft silicone, this would be a good shot.  It’s also a tad expensive, but it is rechargeable and should last you a long time.  If the Muse is not up your alley, be sure to check out the other Luxury Sex Toys that TabuToys carries.
