Review: The New Art of Erotic Massage

You guys know how much I love massage and I previously reviewed another massage book.  But you guys know one of anything is never enough!  FunWares was kind enough to send me The New Art of Erotic Massage.  Plus it has new in the title so it’s bound to cover something I haven’t read yet.

The cover

The cover of the book is not particularly discreet.  It has a woman and man, both completely nude.  All the genitals are covered, but you can see both of their bare butts and it is a fairly erotic image.  The title of the book is displayed in the middle of the book and the words “erotic massage” are much larger type than “the new art of”.   The back of the book shows the same nude couple in another position, and has a short description of the book.  The title is also down the spine so if you need a discreet bookshelf I’d keep it somewhere else.  It may fit in a bed side table, but it’s larger than a standard size paper-back.   On thing I did find a bit annoying about the overall structure of the book is there are flaps that fold out on the front and back covers.  These flaps have a few more blurbs about the book but just seem silly.  It’s not a hard back with a book jacket, it’s a paperback made to look like it could be a a book jacket.  For some reason this bothers me.

Some images I thought looked fake and posed

The entire book is filled with images similar to the front and back cover.  There are two couples used in these images but if you don’t pay much attention you will probably not notice.  The men are of similar physique and both have short brown hair.  Both women are also similarly shaped but at least differ in hair color and style.  While the women are thin, they are natural looking, so I was not turned off by their appearance.  The only thing I did not care for in some of the images is that the positions look very posed, forced, and fake.  I know it can be difficult to show a connection in pictures, but many of the pictures just didn’t seem like the couples were into it and they were just going through the motions.

The New Art of Erotic Massage has more pictures than text, but I found the next to be well written and intriguing.  The pictures do enhance the text though because they do typically show what a stroke would look like.  There are only five chapters:

1.  Start at the beginning
2.  Some basic strokes and techniques
3.  How to do a basic sensual massage
4.  The joy of erotic massage
5.  Natural therapies, massage, and sex

Each chapter has a few subtopics.  The first chapter talks about why you would to engage in sensual and erotic massage and the benefits of both.  It also goes over all the prep-work, equipment, and precautions you should be aware of.  The second chapter covers the four basic strokes (gliding, medium-depth strokes, deep strokes, and percussion), how to perform them, and what body parts they are best for.  The next chapter covers the basis of a sensual massage.  It has a whole routine that starts at the back and works through each body part until you reach the feet.  You can do the whole routine, or pick your favorite portion depending on the amount of time you have.  I enjoyed reading through the routine and I think I would enjoy most all of it.  The only thing I don’t think I would enjoy is the section on feet because I really do not like having my feet touched.  There are a few parts that also talk about stretching your partner which does sound quite heavenly.

A sample page with text and images

The section on erotic massage is very similar, but it focuses on arousing your partner rather than relaxing them.  The pictures are also slightly more erotic, but not overly sexual.  It did stress the fact that the book would not cover any genital interactions, which is fine, but they mentioned it a few times and that annoyed me a bit.  It gives good tips like using things other than your hands such a your lips, hair, and breasts to massage your partner.  It then goes through certain body parts and areas with some suggestions.  It also has my new favorite sex quote:

“A sensible man watches his partner masturbate so that he knows exactly what she best likes and how she does it.”

I found most of these to be erotic and enjoyable but a few of them made me squirm a bit.  I’m horribly ticklish.  I mean to the point that if you look at me correctly I’ll giggle.  One of the suggestions was to stick your tongue into your partners navel.  For that to be done on me, there’s no way, I would flail, and kick, and that just not would be sexy or erotic and I have no desire to stick my tongue in someone else belly button.  That just sounds gross.  I’m sure someone will enjoy it, but that suggestion really threw me of and out of the mood a bit.  The other section that bothered me was again the feet.  My feet are not erotic nor is someone touching them. You don’t have to follow the book word for word, so this really isn’t a huge issue, it was just a slight turn off from reading it.

The last section was interesting and it talked more about particular types of massage.  It covers a few basics of aromatherapy, shiatsu, acupressure, and reflexology.  I thought it was interesting and it made me want to read a bit more about it.  Except reflexology, because well yeah… the whole feet thing.  The idea is neat, but it makes me squirm a bit.

Overall, I did enjoy reading The New Art of Erotic Massage.  It’s very easy to read and the images are nice and do show you examples.  I didn’t feel it covered anything kinky, so it would be great for vanilla folks but I think kinky people will enjoy it too, particularly the erotic massage part.  I liked that it really separated the sensual and erotic massage and didn’t focus so much on the sex organs for the erotic massage.  I think because of that it will really open up some new doors for people and allow them to discover their partner even more.  So head on over to FunWares to check it out and their selection of massage books.  Oh and don’t forget to pick up some massage oil to go with it to enhance your experience.  FunWares always ships quickly and discreetly so order today.
