Review: X1 Orgasmatron

If you’re on FetLife, you’ve probably seen the ads, maybe.  I click the add sometimes when something looks weird or interesting and one day I clicked an ad for X. Treme Orgasmatronics and looked at the X1 Orgasmatron.  I think I fell in love with them the moment I looked at the page.  Their tag line is “Less pants, more science!” I mean what isn’t to love?  They even have a page on the physics of this toy and several videos that talk about the physics and why they claim it’s awesome.  So of course I went to the contact form and sent them an email asking if they’d send me one to review.  After all, I am an engineer too, who better suited for the job right?  And as it turns out, they were very excited to have me review one!

The vibrator and X1 dildo

The X1 doesn’t really come with any packaging.  It was wrapped in bubble wrap (or something, I don’t recall) and was shipped in a plain brown box.  The return address label was discreet too, I believe it was Boulder Applied Physics (which I thought was cool).  You’re on your own to figure out how to store it yet, I haven’t quite decided.  I will probably end up putting the dildo in some plastic baggies and trying to keep the cord wrapped up with the ball vibrator.

As far as the X1 goes itself, it has three main parts: the cord (there’s a lot of it), the ball vibrator (what actually vibrates), and the X1 dildo attachment.  I’ll start with the X1 Dildo.  It’s a fairly generic, straight, and tapered dildo with one catch.  The base is a little more than half a sphere.  It’s made that way so you can pop it over top of the ball of the vibrator and it works like a ball and socket joint.  From tip to end it’s about 6″ in length and about 4″ are insert-able.  The end is slightly pointed that helps a bit with insertion and it tapers from about 1.25″ at the narrowest to a bit over 1.5″ at the very base.  There’s no curves, or textures, though there is a very fine seam, but I could not feel it internally.  It is made from a very firm bright pink (boo) silicone.  The silicone attracts a little bit of lint, but not as bad as some toys and has a smooth texture.  I would suggest using a bit of water-based lube with it, though you shouldn’t need too much and since there is no texture is is super easy to clean.  You can even bleach or boil the dildo (just not the vibrating part).  There is very little give to the material and, except for the base, it doesn’t really flex much at all.  The base on the other hand, because it is a much thinner layer, is more flexible and easily pops on to the ball.

The dildo in and of itself is a little bland.  No texture, etc.  I found that it was easy to insert and not too long.  They will also probably come up with more shapes though and on their website they even suggestion you could make your own.   However, I’ve also found it has some other amusing uses (like one of those popcap things you turn inside out) and you can easily suction it to a thigh or chest (see the video for creative uses).

The vibrating ball is made of plastic and is kind of interesting looking.  It is about 6″ in total length and is essentially a ball attached to a handle.  The handle is about 3″ long and the ball has a diameter of about 3″.  The cord comes out of the side of the handle, though it may have been more convenient and easy to work with if it came out of the end of the handle.  As far as cleaning this part, you should have very little to do.  Since you remove the dildo, you shouldn’t have a lot of lube left on the ball vibrator, though if you do I would suggest making sure that it is plugged and wiping it off with a damp cloth or a toy wipe.

The dildo, vibrator, and all the cords

When I was watching the videos of the toy, it seemed really intense.  I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I got it.  I opened it up and plugged it in right away.  You have to turn the dial a good ways before it starts to move.  I can’t really say that this toy vibrates, it’s more along the lines of gyrating.  The entire toy just shakes.  If you grip it, it makes your entire arm shake, even on the lower settings.  On high, it’s difficult to hold on to, though for me it doesn’t numb my hand so much as make it tired.  It’s almost like holding on to an automatic shake weight.   If you’re concerned about things jiggling when you masturbate, then this is not the toy for you.  When I used it the first time, I could feel the vibration all the way in my head.  Though it doesn’t really feel like a vibration, it’s just movement.  Almost like the toy thrusts itself.  If you lay it down on the floor, it will actually bounce a few inches off the ground when on high.  When I use it externally, it doesn’t do a whole lot, my clit likes more direct stimulation.  However, internally it’s very interesting.  It’s designed to stimulate all the internal parts that external vibrations don’t reach and I think that it does that.  I don’t feel that just using it internally would get me off, but it is a nice added sensation to other play.  They do say on the website that they don’t recommend using it if you are pregnant  have an IUD, heart conditions, or seizures.   I would definitely check with your doctor first.

The only real downside I’ve found is the noise level.  It is quite loud and it is not something I would feel comfortable using with roommates unless no one was home.  It can be muffled a bit with some pillows, but it’s still rather loud.  It also has a high pitch whine to it, especially on the low settings.  Overall though, it sounds like a small appliance, like a blender.

There are also many ways to use this toy.  Aside from using the dildo by itself in the many ways I’ve come up with, you can use the vibrator alone, with one of your own dildos (just press it against it), or even use the dildo anally.  The wide spherical base on the toy makes it safe to use anally, just be sure to clean it well.  They also have some other uses on their website here.  I do think it would be neat to make my own attachments for it.

One thing you really don’t have to worry about with this toy is not having enough cord.  I sat down and measured it out and it has nearly 17 feet of cord all together.  However, the cord is not sealed like something you would see from something produced so frequently as the Hitachi.  Where the dial box is spliced on, the connection is sealed with some form of shrink tape.  In addition to all the cord, there is a dial box and a transformer box and the cord comes apart at each place.  One piece of cord connects to the transformer and it looks more like a laptop cord.  From the transformer there is a thinner cord that looks more like something you’d use to charge a cell phone.  That cord plugs into the cord that goes to the dialbox with a round plug.  This is the weakest point in my opinion because it can easily become unplugged.  I suppose this does help you from killing your cord by jerking on it too much though.

Overall I think the X1 Orgasmatron is a really interesting toy.  It’s expensive, but I also haven’t found anything quite like it.  I mean it makes your whole arm shake.  It’s almost like having a thrusting dildo and having your insides jiggle.  It’s definitely powerful, but not buzzy at all like a Hitachi.  If you’re looking for something unique, I think this would be a great addition, especially if they start adding more dildo styles to add.
